Riz & Oriah Mirza: Modern Spirituality Experts on keeping it real, Their Sacred Earth Retreats, and the launch of Chakra Cozy Magazine

Riz and Oriah Mirza are two of the most sought after and respected experts in spirituality— not to mention, podcasters, media moguls, and adventure seekers.  For more than 20 years, the duo has cultivated a devoted global following with their refreshingly relatable approach to conversations around healing,  spirituality, and personal transformation. There’s no “woo-woo” where they’re concerned— they’re all about keeping it real.  Together they have built a modern lifestyle brand and global community centered on curiosity, transformation, adventure, and authentic human connection.  Riz,  one of the world’s top trance channelers and psychic mediums, and Oriah, a respected shaman and mystical lifestyle designer, have created a unique space where mystical meets modern— and where spirituality feels more accessible.   Intrigued? Keep on reading, because they’re two of the most fascinating people you’re going to want to get to know.

For someone discovering you and your work for the first time, how do you describe what you do in everyday terms? You work across spirituality, media, travel, wellness, and design — what connects all of it?

I usually tell people that I help sensitive, curious humans figure out how to navigate this chaotic world so they can live with genuine peace instead of feeling overwhelmed. At the end of the day, I’m not here to present myself as some guru on a mountaintop—I’m an East L.A. girl, a mom of five, and someone who has been through the fire of life experience.

The thread that connects everything we do—whether it’s designing a space, publishing Chakra Cozy, hosting a podcast, or taking a group to Egypt—is human connection and intentional living. We don’t separate spirituality from real life. It’s about creating sanctuaries, both inside yourself and in your outer environment, so you can stop just surviving and actually fall back in love with being alive.

The word “spiritual” can sometimes feel intimidating or overly abstract. How do you make spirituality feel more accessible, modern, and relevant to everyday life?

By taking the “woo-woo” and the performance right out of it. For so long, spirituality has been framed as this rigid, formal, or cookie-cutter thing where you’re supposed to wear white linen and speak in a soft, holy whisper. That’s just not who Riz and I are. We speak plainly, we laugh loudly, we talk about the ’80s, and we make complex metaphysical ideas deeply practical.

Spirituality isn’t something you perform once a week—it’s how you live. It’s how you speak to your kids, how you handle disappointment, the media you consume, and how you treat the person making your coffee. It’s simply becoming more self-aware and present. When you strip away the dogma and show people how to use their own intuition as an everyday tool, it stops being intimidating and starts being useful.

You’ve built your work around helping people connect more deeply with themselves and the world around them. What do you think people are ultimately searching for when they come to you?

People are exhausted from trying to live up to external definitions of success and trying to find answers outside of themselves. Deep down, what everyone is searching for is permission to trust their own inner voice.

Our world is louder than it’s ever been, and technology has made us connected yet emotionally empty and isolated. People don’t want another teacher telling them what to believe. They come to us because they want to feel seen, they want genuine community, and they want to remember that the wisdom, resilience, and potential they’ve been looking for were already inside them all along.

Through Sacred Earth Retreats, you take people to some of the world’s most beautiful and mystical destinations. What do you love most about these experiences, and what can someone expect when they join one of your retreats?

What I love most is watching people slow down enough to let the noise drop away so their real selves can come forward. You can read about ancient energy or watch documentaries, but standing in a sacred site with an intentional group of people shifts your entire worldview fast.

When you join us, don’t expect a rigid, scripted seminar where you just sit and listen to us lecture. Expect active participation, organic magic, storytelling, deep emotional breakthroughs, and a lot of laughter. We move through our five pillars of well-being—nourishing your spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, and environmental connection. You return home not just rested, but with lifelong friendships and practical tools for your everyday life.

Tell us about your upcoming retreat to the Pyramids next year. What drew you to this particular destination, and what will make this experience different from the retreats you’ve led before?

Egypt is one of the most powerful energetic vortexes on the planet. Our retreat, Raise the Vibration: A World Peace Transmission at the Pyramids, was born from a vision to combine ancient history with a global movement for human connection. It is still in the works, and the final information will be released shortly for 2027.

What makes this journey so distinct is the scale of our shared intention. We’re leading a collective meditation right at the Great Pyramids focused purely on sending peace, healing, and unity out into the world. Plus, Riz will be doing a live trance channeling session right in front of the pyramids, and other sites, which is going to be unforgettable. It’s not just a sightseeing tour; it’s a moment where we get to be active participants in a new chapter of human evolution as we help people connect to their ancient selves.

You’ve witnessed some profound transformations through your retreats. Is there a particular breakthrough or moment involving a guest that has stayed with you?

The moments that stick with me most aren’t necessarily the wild, spectacular psychic revelations—it’s the moments of spontaneous quiet, profound emotional release for people.

I remember watching someone who arrived completely closed off, carrying years of heavy grief and trauma, suddenly laugh from their core again or break down in tears because they finally felt safe enough to lay their heavy armor down. Seeing a person walk in feeling spiritually numb and leave with a restored sense of wonder, trusting their own heart for the first time in decades… there’s no high in the world like witnessing a person fall back in love with their life.

You host The Mystics Podcast together, where you have incredibly open and authentic conversations about everything from spirituality to life, relationships, and culture. What has been one of the most unexpected or memorable conversations you’ve had on the show?

The beauty of The Mystics is that we don’t bring on guests—it’s just raw, unfiltered, real conversation between Riz and me, along with our audience…our assistant joins us. The show is part classroom, part party, and part storytelling.

Some of the most memorable moments happen when we go from reacting to wild paranormal footage or talking about aliens and UFOs straight into Riz entering a deep trance state right on camera, being in costume or throwing cookies at each other across the studio. Or when we get into an unscripted, honest disagreement about our own relationship or parenting while breaking down how empathy works. Showing that you can explore higher consciousness while still being delightfully human, funny, and grounded is what makes every single episode unpredictable. People around the world have told us they feel connected to us, like they are in our living room with us.

You’re also bringing your philosophy into the world of design with Oriah’s Nest, where you transform spaces into beautiful, peaceful, and healing environments. Tell us about the concept behind the show and why you believe our physical surroundings can have such an impact on how we feel.

Oriah’s Nest is a project that’s so close to my heart, which is currently being developed as a streaming series and also lives as a multi-page featured section in our magazine Chakra Cozy Magazine. The core concept centers around working with public figures and celebrities to transform a specific space in their home into a private sanctuary—a dedicated space where they can unplug from the demands of life to breathe, reflect, meditate, and reset.

This philosophy is really the heart of my new podcast show on YouTube, Lady O Unfiltered, where I dive deep into how empaths and sensitive individuals can transform their living environments into safe havens to decompress, regulate their nervous systems, and protect their mental health. We spend so much energy designing homes to impress guests or look good on social media, but we rarely design for how a room actually makes our nervous system feel. Our homes absorb our daily stress, chaotic energy, and heavy emotions.

Your home isn’t just about interior design; it is a vital tool for your emotional well-being and spiritual journey. InLady O Unfiltered, I share the nitty-gritty, practical ways sensitive people can overcome common excuses—like budget constraints or a lack of formal design skills—to create a conscious, authentic, and magical environment. True healing begins at home, and when you intentionally curate a sanctuary with light, nature, and pure intention, it drastically alters your mental and emotional state, allowing you to recharge and step back out into the world fully supported.

For someone who wants to create their own “sacred space” at home, what are a few simple things they can do — even without completely redecorating their home?

You don’t need a huge budget or a massive house. It starts with clearing out physical clutter, because physical clutter is just postponed decision-making that weighs on your energy.

Here are a few simple ways to transform your environment:

  • Open the windows regularly to let fresh air and movement clear out stale daily stress.
  • Bring nature inside through a plant, a natural piece of wood, or clean botanical elements.
  • Create an anchor of intention using lighting, a candle, or a meaningful object like a crystal. (Crystals don’t magically fix your life, but picking one up acts as a physical reminder to stop, breathe, and align with peace).
  • Work with intuitive tools like oracle decks to set daily focal points. I actually created The House Witch Oracle Deck (available at https://www.rizmirza.com/the-house-witch-oracle-deck) specifically to help people bring intentional, magical energy into their homes and daily routines.
  • Incorporate cozy media, like picking up a copy of our publication at https://chakracozy.com/, to keep inspiring, high-vibe ideas on your coffee table.

Even dedicating one quiet corner with a comfortable cushion where phone screens aren’t allowed can instantly become your personal sanctuary.

You both also oversee Chakra Cozy Magazine. What inspired you to create it, and what did you feel was missing from the media landscape when you launched it?

We really felt like there was this huge void in the media world today. Everything out there had become so fast, hyper-curated, and completely disconnected from real life. Modern spirituality was either getting flattened into transactional, one-size-fits-all self-help tips, or it was floating so far off in the clouds that it lost all its real-world magic.

What was missing was a true sanctuary—a cozy, tangible space where modern mysticism could actually sit down at the kitchen table with us. We wanted to create something tactile that honors the warmth of home, seasonal alignment, analog rituals, and the beautifully imperfect journey of personal growth.

Look at the media landscape today: it’s dominated by intense, hyper-masculine, linear energy—endless scrolling, fast content, strict algorithms, and constant pressure to achieve. Chakra Cozy was born out of a desire to anchor into the sacred feminine. It’s a call to slow down, soften, yield, and actually breathe. We wanted to bridge the cosmic and the grounded, taking deep astrological wisdom, chakra balancing, and intuitive living, and bringing them right onto your coffee table.

Ultimately, we launched Chakra Cozy to remind everyone that living a spiritual life doesn’t mean you have to be floating in a retreat center or putting on a show for social media. It’s about bringing magic into your everyday routine, making self-care feel like home, and letting peace and inner truth become your greatest form of luxury.

You’ve managed to build a multifaceted media and lifestyle empire spanning television, podcasts, publishing, travel, and experiences. Was that always the vision, or did it organically evolve as new opportunities came your way?

It was completely organic! When Riz and I opened our first private center in Malibu over twenty years ago, we were just focusing on helping the people right in front of us.

As the years went on, we realized we didn’t just want to be labeled “spiritual teachers”—we were creators, storytellers, parents, and entrepreneurs. We didn’t want to build a formal institution; we wanted to build a modern lifestyle brand that centers on human curiosity and genuine living. As technology evolved and our community grew globally, moving into podcasts, print, television, and international travel felt like a natural expansion of the exact same message: Heal the Planet. Unite as One. Be the Change.

Of everything you’re working on right now, what are you most excited about bringing into the world next?

Honestly, I’m so excited about this next evolution of our media projects—specifically bringing Oriah’s Nest and our new television concepts into production. We also have other projects in the works.

Reaching people through streaming networks allows us to open up these transformative, uplifting conversations for an audience that might never step foot into a spiritual center. Combining design, emotional healing, adventure, and storytelling on a major platform is thrilling. I’m 53 years young, and I feel like we are just getting started on showing people how magical, peaceful, and fun this life can really be when you trust yourself!
